Coconut Oil & Herbal Tea

Chances are that by now you’ve heard about the many healing properties of coconut oil. This sweet, light oil is so powerful and such a help to our health and well-being that it is called a superfood, and people are sharing endless stories and experiences about amazing ways it has helped them. I’ve been a huge fan of coconut oil for several years now and it makes up an essential ingredient in many of the tonics I create in my kitchen. Today, I’d like to share just a few of the top benefits of coconut oil and share how you can combine it with your favorite herbal tea blends to seriously enhance the amount of healing power you receive!

The Benefits Of Coconut Oil

Here are just a few of the reasons why I use organic coconut oil every day in my kitchen…

Brain Food

Coconut oil is rich in special fats that play an integral role in the health of our brains. These fats are so important and so lacking in many diets that some people find disorders lifting just by adding the oil to their diet. If you have a brain food herbal tea blend you love that features herbs like ginseng, ginkgo, and gotu kola – add in coconut oil and see the positive effects get supercharged!

Clean & Clear

Coconut oil contains some gentle yet powerful antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-pathogenic influences on the body. This happens as a result of important fatty acids within the oil and the way the body interacts with them. For this reason, coconut oil ends up in just about all of my herbal tea blends for viral, bacterial, and pathogenic issues.

Weight & Appetite Management

Coconut oil gives your body something really great to chew on! As it’s digested, coconut oil reduces appetite and helps satiate the body so that you end up eating only when you really need to. Over a short term this could lead to a better relationship with your hunger cycle, better control over eating, and weight loss that doesn’t happen because of starvation! Adding coconut oil to green tea is a wonderful way to work in synergy with your metabolism for healthy appetite management.

Better Cholesterol Health

It turns out that coconut oil can be a big blessing for heart health by improving LDL and HDl cholesterol levels. Taking it in combination with herbal tea like green tea, ginger root, or ginseng can make an instant cholesterol tonic that works fast!

Coconut oil can also be applied directly to the skin for some pretty amazing benefits. It acts as a light, breathable moisturizer that penetrates deeply into the skin while delivering nutrients and some natural sunscreen properties as well. Over time, coconut oil used as a moisturizer can improve the look, feel, function, and health of the skin. Let the oil soak in to your skin while you enjoy an herbal tea of calendula, lavender, oat straw, or rose hips – all wonderful herbs for your skin!

How To Coconut Oil With Herbal Tea

If you’re a die-hard coconut oil fan there’s no reason why you can’t take it straight, but it makes a wonderful addition to any herbal tea so why not enjoy it that way?

In order to use coconut oil with your favorite herbal tea blend, all you need to do is add it right in while the tea is still warm. Coconut oil is a solid when cool, but it turns liquid with just a small amount of heat. If you’re enjoying iced tea, just warm the oil until it liquefies and then pour it into your cold tea while stirring.

As you may imagine coconut oil has a light, sweet taste that brings out the best in just about any herbal tea blend. I have fallen so much in love with the unique flavor of coconut oil that I use it instead of agave nectar or honey these days.

Another reason why you’ll benefit from adding coconut oil to your herbal tea is that the oil itself may make the healing properties of the herbs more available and permeable for the tissues in your body. Pretty great!
